As you can see, we found the Lanes who as my father puts it, "came through Boston."
It was 1887 and John M. Lane, a mason by trade, married Catharine Kelly! It's a little difficult to make out what Catharine's occupation was on the registry.
But there's no doubt that this piece of evidence connects Nana Beth's Bible mention of Jeremiah Lane to OUR Lanes. Not because we're pulling at loose strings, but because the ages of the married couple match up with other proofs. For instance, we find this family in the U.S. Census 1910.
In Ward 18 of Boston, Mass. there's the married couple...
John M Lane is the head of household and he's already 48. He's been married for 23 years to his bride Catharine. Their oldest son--John M Lane--is 21 years old and single.
The next son is Joseph F. Lane who is 19.
And then Henry R. who is sixteen years old.
They've got three sisters-- Gertrude (11), Catharine (8), and Helena who is five.
The next time we see John Mathias Lane (born 1890ish) in the censuses is in 1920 and he's MARRIED too and in Camden, New Jersey. He married a Mary just like Jeremiah did. He married Mary Frances. And THEY had two children:
JOHN M LANE
EDWARD F LANE
It's a little confusing but it all makes sense.
