Getting this research underway...

It was on what would have been Earl Francis Bartling's 116th birthday that we found his U.S. WWII Draft Registration Card, 1942. We found it online at familysearch.org and so we started digging!

Reportedly, writes Emily Anne Croom, the first labor newspaper in the United States was the Mechanic Free Press (published from 1828-1835). In the 1800's and 1900's there were also many general papers circulating among the general working population and/or specific groups such as stenographers and ironworkers.

Comparing such information to trade/industry statistics and paperworks is a fascinating undertaking!
